Maratos wins Silver Circle award

Lecturer George Maratos won UIC’s Silver Circle Award, an honor that is presented to some of UIC’s best teachers. The selection committee is made up of graduating seniors, and winners are honored at their college commencements.
“When I found out that I had won the award, I had an overwhelming sense of joy,” Maratos said. “I will never forget the honor that the class of 2025 has given me.”
Maratos joined the CS faculty in the fall of 2023 but has been around campus since 2011. He earned both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in computer science at UIC and continued his studies as a PhD student. During his graduate studies, Maratos realized as much as he liked conducting research, his passion was the time he spent in the classroom. He worked as a TA at UIC for 13 semesters, including with UIC’s CHANCE Program, before joining the faculty.
“I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to all the students who I have had the privilege to teach. I take very seriously the trust my community, students, and university place in me to provide our students with a quality education,” Maratos said. “It brings me the ultimate sense of fulfillment to be recognized in this way by our students. To the class of 2025, know that I am on your side, I am rooting for you, and I believe in your success as you pursue your dreams and passions in life.”
