Two CS students win outstanding dissertation and thesis awards
Two former computer science students received the Outstanding Thesis and Dissertation Award from UIC’s Graduate College.
Andrew Wentzel (PhD, spring ‘25) earned the Outstanding Dissertation Award. He was advised by Professor G. Elisabeta Marai.
Jaspal Rana Jannu (MS, fall ‘24) won the Outstanding Thesis Award. Jannu was advised by Assistant Professor Sourav Medya.
The Graduate College’s annual Outstanding Thesis and Dissertation Award is given to “the most outstanding master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation in each of the four Graduate Program divisions.” Each of the winners also receive a monetary award.
Wentzel is a lead research scientist at Epsilon, where he is a member of their decision sciences team. Jannu is a software developer with Versa Networks.
Xinhua Zhang, an associate professor and the director of graduate studies, was pleased to see both awards go to computer science students and noted that this was the second year in a row this occurred.
