CS/DS Drop-In Advising
Drop In Advising
If your time-sensitive questions and concerns would be better-addressed one-on-one, we encourage you to attend a CS/DS Drop-In Advising Session!
These sessions are intended for students who have advising questions but their assigned advisor may not be available to meet on your desired timeline. Instead, our CS Advising Team offers several CS/DS Drop-In Advising Sessions throughout the traditional academic year–including both virtual and in-person sessions–for students to speak with a member of the CS/DS Advising team to ensure help is available as much as possible and across various mediums for all our students.
These sessions are for current Computer Science, Data Science, and Computer Science + Design majors only. CS+DES majors are welcome but we will only be able to provide CS course-related support.
Drop-In Advising Guidelines
- All Drop-In Advising Sessions are first come, first served.
- Sessions will end on time and not be extended if there is a high volume of attendance. If you are not seen, plan to meet with your assigned advisor instead or attend the next available session.
- Students are welcome to meet with any advisor available during Drop-In Advising. Please note that there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to meet with your assigned advisor during these sessions.
- Keep in mind that continuing students can consult emails from their assigned advisor for their personal office hours.
- Be sure to review your degree audit and prepare any questions, comments, and concerns ahead of time.
- It’s helpful to have a personal device during your session other than a phone to take notes, access your degree audit, view your registration, etc.
UIC Catalog Webpages
- All virtual sessions will be held over Zoom and must be accessed via your UIC Zoom account.
- Students must have their First and Last Name and/or UIN in their display name when entering the Zoom waiting room or you will be denied admission.
- Students must be responsive within the first 2 minutes when admitted to the Zoom meeting room or you will be placed back in the waiting room.
- Advisors reserve the right to remove students from the virtual drop-in session if you are facing severe technical difficulties (e.g. audio not working, lagging, etc.), are not calling from an appropriate environment to speak with an advisor, or ask questions beyond the scope of drop-in advising (e.g. building a long-term degree plan, excessive non-advising questions, etc.).
