Zhaochen Gu

Zhaochen Gu will join the computer science department this fall as a clinical assistant professor.

Gu earned her PhD in computer science and engineering, MS in computer engineering, and BS in computer science from the University of North Texas (UNT).

Most recently, Gu worked as a graduate research assistant in the Dependable Computing Systems Research Lab in the computer science and engineering department at UNT and at the Center for Agile and Adaptive Additive Manufacturing in the material science department at UNT.

Last summer, she interned with Goldman Sachs, Inc., in their core engineering division.

Gu has taught AI and data science classes, computer foundations, data structures and algorisms, and computer science. She has also taught cyber security to K-12 students. She is looking forward to joining the UIC faculty in August.

“I chose UIC for its dedication to innovative education and student success. The outstanding faculty and staff here are passionately committed to creating a positive impact on society and genuinely care about students’ development,” Gu said. “I am particularly impressed by UIC’s visionary leadership and its student-oriented development goals.”

This fall, Gu will teach CS 412, Introduction to Machine Learning, at UIC.

In total, three new clinical faculty and eight new tenure-track faculty will join the department this academic year at UIC.
