CS
All Computer Science undergraduates have an assigned academic advisor and will be a part of that advisor’s student cohort for the duration of their academic career at UIC – from Orientation to Graduation.
Your advisor assignment can be found via the My Success Network homepage on your iAdvise account, with their contact information and appointment scheduling options made available to you.
In addition to reviewing your iAdvise account, your assigned DS advisor will send an outreach email after the add/drop period introducing themselves and detailing their advising process for your reference.

How do I Schedule an Appointment with My Advisor?
All advising appointments are now scheduled through iAdvise.
Each advisor may hold their own drop-in hours, walk-in hours, open advising, etc. They will communicate any advising opportunities beyond iAdvise appointments to their students through email.
Note: Don’t miss emails from your advisor! Add a filter to approve emails sent from your advisor’s name so you don’t miss important messages. All students are expected to check their UIC email regularly for important advising information.
Here are instructions for how to schedule your advising appointment in iAdvise:
1. Log into my.uic.edu
2. At the top of the page, select the Advising tab
3. Select iAdvise (if the iAdvise icon is not on your page, simply type iAdvise into the search bar)
4. Select ENGR Advising
5. Click the Engineering College Advising link on the side
6. Select your advisor’s name
7. Find a time that works!
Is Advising Required?
Ahead of registration each semester, every student in the College of Engineering has an advising hold placed on their student account, which will keep them from being able to register. This hold can only be removed by your respective CS advisor. To remove the advising hold and register, all COE/CS students must be advised each semester (Fall and Spring). CS Advisors refer to this as mandatory advising.
Mandatory advising involves two steps:
- All students must first submit the CS Advising Form (https://go.uic.edu/csAdvisingForm)each semester.
- Your hold removal is NOT an automated process, and our team will need a sufficient amount of time to review your form. Our office will only be reviewing forms during regular business hours (M-F, 9-5). Our office will contact you directly via email with a confirmation once your hold has been removed.
- Depending on your position as a student, you may be required to meet with your advisor after filling out the advising form. 1:1 appointments are required for:
- First semester Fall 2024 CS students (Freshmen, Transfer, or New Change of Major)
- Students on academic probation
- Spring 2025 Graduates*
*CS Advisors will be reviewing the advising form submissions of Spring 2025 graduates and providing feedback if necessary. If your advisor believes your advising form submission warrants a 1:1 advising appointment prior to removing your advising hold, you will be contacted directly via your UIC email.
Please note: Your Advising Hold is not connected to any of the following: CS Drop-In Advising, Town Halls, or CS Advising Events. It is your responsibility to pay attention to your CS Advisors “Mandatory Advising” requirements and information on how to remove your advising hold in order to register for courses on time. Look for an email from your advisor referring to “Mandatory Advising” to review their advising appointment process.
